Need assessment of severe mental morbidity of Kerala State

Mental Health did never receive due consideration in our Health Planning. No effort has so far been done to study and estimate the prevalence of mental illness either. Thus, lack of correct data was the most important factor preventing any active steps against the felt need of the severe mental morbidity in the community.
 
The Project – “Severe Mental Morbidity Need Assessment of Kerala State” is funded by the State Board of Medical Research. The project work has been started on 1.7.1997. Sri.A.R. Chidambaram, retired Health Supervisor was the coordinator of the project. An interim report of the project has submitted to the State Government.
